Sludge Storage Solution

TerraTank supplied two TT60-W settlement weir tanks to provide temporary sludge storage and settlement capacity while the permanent infrastructure was taken out of service.

The tanks were strategically positioned close to the site entrance, helping to minimise the movement of sludge tankers through the active construction area and reduce disruption to other works on site.

Featuring an open-top design for easy access to the weirs and a V-bottom profile to aid sludge removal, the tanks provided effective separation of suspended solids and organic matter. A specialised integrated pump returned liquid back to the treatment works, creating a practical temporary system around the site’s operational requirements.

The temporary arrangement enabled the existing sludge infrastructure to be removed and the wider treatment works upgrade to progress while maintaining operational continuity on the live site.

By combining temporary settlement capacity, liquor return pumping and secondary containment within a coordinated system, TerraTank helped Mott MacDonald Bentley and Severn Trent maintain resilience, safeguard the surrounding environment and minimise interference between operational tanker movements and construction activity.

The modular set-up provided the temporary capacity required to bridge the transition between existing and new infrastructure, helping keep both treatment operations and the wider construction programme moving.
