The Project
This complex project involved creating a new motorway underpass by excavating 24000m3 of material, and sliding a 60 metre long, 8,500-tonne concrete underpass into position with millimetre precision. The operation was followed by complex backfill and asphalt reinstatement activities during a short, planned motorway closure – avoiding months of lane closures and minimising disruption for road users.
The Solution
During the works, TerraTank supplied two of our TT70 bulk storage tanks manifolded together, alongside a TT30 and integrated pumps, providing a reliable liquid storage solution for on demand water supply, assisting in the process of the concrete box slide. These seamless logistics kept this impressive project moving forward, during time-critical conditions, enabling the workforce to complete operations 26 hours ahead of schedule.
The Result
As a result, the M27 upgrade has three additional slip roads, a new dual carriageway linking the slip roads to local networks and enhanced facilities for walking, cycling, and horse riding. This upgrade improves overall connectivity between the M27 and A32 unlocking access to new homes, creating jobs, and providing better regional mobility.
